CTA opened a world of opportunities for Glenda and helped her land a great job
Glenda had been working in hospitality for more than 10 years. She wanted a career in a different industry but didn’t know where to start and wasn’t sure how to use her previous experience to find another job. All that changed after she enrolled in Career Transition Assistance program. Through the eight-week CTA course, she improved her digital literacy skills, built confidence, set career goals, improved her job search skills, and learned how to tailor her resume and apply for jobs online.
With improved skills and confidence, Glenda found a new role as a customer service representative in a call centre. “Learn more about yourself through the CTA program. I highly recommend it. It was such a positive vibe and was a joy, I couldn’t wait to get there,” Glenda said.

CTA helped Wowok to improve his job readiness and find a job
Fortunately, Wowok participated in the Career Transition Assistance (CTA) program, working with CTA provider MTC Marrickville. At the start of the course he attended face-to face sessions with his facilitator but had to complete the program online after COVID-19 hit.
Career Transition Assistance helps mature aged workers 45 years and over to increase their job readiness by building their skills and confidence to get a job.
Wowok was very enthusiastic about re-entering the workforce, but he was not clear about his goals. With help from his CTA facilitator, he defined his goals and identified his transferrable skills. Once he had a clear direction, MTC suggested he apply to Woolworths, as a large organisation would allow him to explore different business areas and opportunities.
The facilitator helped Wowok to develop his resume for different areas of work and supported him to apply for various roles in Woolworths. Once he was offered an interview, he worked with his facilitator to practice his interviews skills and prepare for the interview.
Thanks to this support Wowok’s confidence improved and he was successful in gaining a casual role as a Barista with Woolworths. He is doing such a good job, that in a few months he will get the chance to be promoted to Supervisor!
Wowok’s path to employment was not easy, but thanks to his facilitator’s “lovely, patient and helpful” personality Wowok didn’t give up. “I really support the CTA Program for people who need knowledge and information to find new pathways or want to change career.”
Warren has a history of employment and is a hard worker. But due to personal struggles and some physical ailments he became unemployed and homeless and did it tough for a while living on the streets. COVID-19 then hit Australia which added to the stress and complication of finding a job.
These barriers made it very difficult for Warren to find work which wasn’t something he had experienced before.
Things began to turn around for Warren when he was referred to the Career Transition Assistance (CTA) Program.
Warren’s CTA provider ETC, helped him develop his resume, submit job applications and practice his interviews skills.
Although Warren did not have stable accommodation he always showed up to appointments and job interviews.
Through the support of ETC and CTA Warren was put forward for a job with ISS Facility Services as a cleaner for schools and public libraries. His background in car detailing helped bring his previous skills to the job.
He was successful and now has a steady job. Warren says “I’m cleaning all the touch points – helping to keep the community germ free. It’s great being back in the workforce.”
Warren says “ETC saw the potential in me and brought it out, which helped me to get a job.”
Months after he finished the CTA program Warren is still working and has found a home.
