About the grant

The grant provides funding to services in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities to:

  • stay open
  • increase the number of children in care.

Services in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities can apply when grant rounds are open.

The grant is part of the Community Child Care Fund which helps services address barriers to child care participation.

New round opening in 2022

A new round of grant funding will open later in 2022.

The funding will help establish up to 20 new services in disadvantaged regional and remote areas where there is a lack of suitable child care.

Information about the application process will be available on GrantConnect later this year.

Previous funding rounds

Applications for round 3 closed on 1 March 2021. Successful applications were announced on 16 July 2021.

More than $100 million was offered to 385 child care providers for 716 applications. Funding was awarded in three categories:

  1. Sustainability support to help services remain viable and sustainable.
  2. Community support to identify and address community-level barriers to child care participation so more children can attend child care.
  3. Capital support to contribute to the cost of modifying, renovating, extending or building child care facilities that results in more child care places where there is unmet demand.
