The Australian Government also asked the Rapid Research Information Forum chaired by Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Alan Finkel AO FAA FTSE FAHMS, to consider and analyse the available evidence on the differential learning outcomes for online versus in-class education; factors that moderate the relative effectiveness; and distinct implications for students in metropolitan, remote, rural and Indigenous communities.

The development of this response was led by the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, supported by the Australian Academy of Science, with contributing expert authors and reviewers.
