Consultation on National Priorities and Industry Linkage Fund (NPILF)

On 19 June 2020, the Australian Government announced the Job-ready Graduates Package. The National Priorities and Industry Linkage Fund (NPILF), introduced under the package, will allocate block grants to universities to support enhanced engagement with universities and industry to produce job-ready graduates.

The Government intends for the NPILF to support the following three priorities:

  • Increase the number of internships, practicums and other innovative approaches to work-integrated learning
  • Increase the number of STEM-skills graduates and improve their employment outcomes
  • Support universities to develop partnerships and collaboration with industry

On 1 July 2020, the Hon Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Education appointed a working group of university Vice-Chancellors, chaired by Professor Attila Brungs, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology Sydney, to provide advice to him on the design and implementation of the NPILF. The working group have prepared a consultation paper outlining the proposed intention, operation and implementation of the NPILF.

Consultation paper released for submission until Friday 30 October 2020

The working group now wish to invite members of the public to contribute their ideas on the consultation paper. The final page of the consultation paper provides discussion questions, which may provide a useful prompt to guide your submission. Please email your submission (of no more than two pages) to the department at Please note, all submissions will be made publicly available online after submission closes unless advised otherwise by the submitter.

Submissions on the NPILF consultation paper are open until 11.59pm AEDT on Friday 30 October 2020.

To support the written consultation process, the working group is also hosting online consultations in October with representatives of business, particularly small-medium enterprises to ensure perspectives of industry are captured.
