Between July 2014 and June 2017, the Ministerial Advisory Council for Child Care and Early Learning was established to provide a forum where strategic policies affecting the child care and early learning sector could be considered, and informative consultation with the sector could take place.

The Council was chaired by the Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham and co-chaired by respected former Commonwealth Department Secretary, Dr Jeff Harmer AO. The Council members represented a range of perspectives from across the child care and early learning sector.
The Council met three times per year and provided expert advice on matters affecting the child care and early learning sector including proposed or current legislation and policies.
