What is an NSCP funded chaplain?

A chaplain whose chaplaincy position in a school is fully or partly funded by the Australian Government's National School Chaplaincy Program (NSCP)

How does an employer know if a chaplain is NSCP funded?

Employment arrangements for NSCP funded chaplains must align with the requirements set out in the NSCP Project Agreement.

If employers are still unsure, please contact your State or Territory Education department.

What is the Professional Learning Package?

The Professional Learning Package is a free training package about responding to cyberbullying for NSCP funded chaplains to support their role in school communities.

Can all chaplains complete this Professional Learning Package?

No, this Professional Learning Package is for NSCP funded chaplains only.

All chaplains and school communities have access to a free online eSafety professional learning program, which provides participants with an understanding of the relevant issues and strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT.

Please note: the free online eSafety professional learning program does not replace the required Professional Learning Package that NSCP funded chaplains must complete.

Why do employers need to allow NSCP funded chaplains to complete this training?

The Professional Learning Package is a requirement under the National School Chaplaincy Program (NSCP) Project Agreement. This is a compliance requirement under Clause 11.c of the Project Agreement.

What are employers of NSCP funded chaplains' obligations on monitoring completion of the Professional Learning Package?

As an employer of NSCP funded chaplains, you must monitor that all your NSCP funded chaplains have completed the Professional Learning Package by keeping a record of their Certificate of Completion. Employers may be asked to forward a copy of this Certificate to States and Territories on request.

Who pays for the Professional Learning Package for NSCP funded chaplains?

The Professional Learning Package is paid for by the Australian Government. There is no cost to NSCP funded chaplains or employers.

Do NSCP funded chaplains need to use their own time to complete the training?

Each State and Territory has different arrangements in place for when NSCP funded chaplains can complete the training. Please contact your State or Territory Education department to clarify the arrangements.

Please note: undertaking this training is a requirement under the NSCP Project Agreement to further support the wellbeing of school communities.

What if NSCP funded chaplains don't have access to a PC or internet?

Employers should assist NSCP funded chaplains to seek suitable arrangements to complete the Professional Learning Package if they do not have access to a PC or stable internet. It is reasonable that NSCP funded chaplains be able to complete the training at the employer's premises or at the school they are servicing as a NSCP funded chaplain. However, NSCP funded chaplains will need to negotiate this with their employer or school.

When should NSCP funded chaplains register for the training?

NSCP funded chaplains should register for the Professional Learning Package as early as possible.  Registration for this training is open.

Do NSCP funded chaplains need to complete this training annually?

No. NSCP funded chaplains should complete the Professional Learning Package once between 2019 and 2022.
