As part of the New Employment Services Model commencing July 2022, the Australian Government is establishing a panel of Workforce Specialists. These organisations will deliver a range of strategic projects to meet the workforce needs of identified key industries and occupations, connecting them to suitable job seekers in Digital Services and Enhanced Services.
A Workforce Connections Plan will identify key Industries and occupations with labour market opportunities for job seekers to inform the delivery of Workforce Specialist projects.
Funding of $12.5 million will be available each year to support the delivery of projects under this initiative.
Workforce Specialists Panel
A panel of Workforce Specialists will be established via an open Request for Proposal process in the first half of 2022.
Panel members will be engaged on an as-needed basis to provide tailored workforce solutions in identified key industries and occupations.
Identifying key industries and occupations through the Workforce Connections Plan
The Workforce Connections Plan will identify the key industries and occupations with labour market opportunities for job seekers for targeted investment through Workforce Specialist projects.
Workforce Specialists may also be used to respond to more immediate workforce opportunities or challenges where required.
Each industry/occupation under the Plan will have its own implementation plan.
The Plan will be reviewed regularly to respond to changes in the labour market.
The first Plan is being developed by the department in consultation with a range of stakeholders including industry, employers, state and territory governments and the National Skills Commission.
See the Development of the Workforce Connections Plan page for more information on the consultation process for the Plan.
Workforce Specialist Projects
The projects delivered by Workforce Specialists will actively target the industries and occupations identified in the Workforce Connections Plan.
Workforce Specialists projects will complement existing services and where possible leverage existing programs and initiatives in project design and operation.
