Consultation open to support international students to upskill during their studies

The Australian Government is proposing changes to the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act) to make it easier for education providers to deliver a wider range of short courses to international students outside their primary course of study.

The changes aim to improve international students’ employability and enhance their experience while studying in Australia. The proposed amendments remove regulatory barriers such as registration processes, fees and regulatory requirements that education providers often face when offering courses to international students. International students will have access to short courses offering the necessary qualifications to pursue their interests, volunteer and work while studying in Australia — including courses like first aid, white card for construction, and responsible service of alcohol courses, as well as hobbies and recreational courses.

Visit the International Education website for more information and to get involved in the consultation open from 25 September to 5pm AEDT 9 October 2020.
