What is the SEE program?
The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program helps eligible job seekers get the skills they need to participate in Australian society, undertake further study and achieve better employment outcomes by improving their language, reading, writing, maths, and computer skills.
The SEE program provides up to 650 hours of free training and is delivered across Australia, from metropolitan and regional areas, right through to remote communities.
The program caters to various groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, youth, people with disabilities, mature aged people, and job seekers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
SEE training can:
- provide initial, basic, and advanced accredited English language, literacy, and numeracy training
- involve contextualised training relevant to an individual’s background, interests and skillset
- be undertaken on a part or full-time basis
- be delivered in a classroom setting, remotely, or a combination of both
- involve a flexible method of delivery that is more tailored to remote areas.
Eligible job seekers are referred to the program by Centrelink, jobactive, Disability Employment Services (DES), the Community Development Program (CDP), Transition to Work (TtW), and ParentsNext providers.

Additional places for SEE
In 2019-20, the SEE program assisted more than 22,000 job seekers. As part of the 2020-21 Budget, the Australian Government announced an investment of $49.5 million to support an additional 14,485 places in the program over two years.
The investment in the SEE program will ensure that new job seekers who lack basic language, literacy, and numeracy skills (LLN) will be able to access the training and support they need to secure a job.
SEE outcomes and satisfaction
In 2019-20, around three-quarters of the Post-Program Monitoring (PPM) survey participants who engaged in SEE activity reported the program improved their chances of getting a job, desire to find a job, and self-confidence. Participants also reported a high level of satisfaction with the quality of their SEE activity including how well it was organised and the quality of supervision and training.
More than half the participants reported a positive outcome, meaning they had secured an employment or education pathway three months after exiting the activity.
