“VET is a truly great way to start your career, change your career or boost your career, no matter what stage you’re at," Mr Cam said.
“I found career success through VET — and I’m not alone.”
Deciding on a career pathway can be an overwhelming task whether you’re just starting out, upgrading your skills or changing careers entirely.
Mr Cam met with Australian VET Alumni members, Mary George and Morgan Clementson, who have both found rewarding careers in hospitality through VET qualifications.
Ms George trained at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School at TAFE NSW Ryde where she completed a Diploma de Patisserie. As a qualified patisserie chef, Ms George won a Gold Medal at the 2017 WorldSkills Australia Competition and qualified for the WorldSkills International Competition held in Abu Dhabi.
After completing a Certificate III in Retail Baking (Bread) and a Certificate III in Retail Baking (Cake and Pastry) through TAFE NSW Illawarra, Ms Clementson was awarded runner up in the 2013 Australian Training Awards for Apprentice of the Year. Through her involvement in the Australian Training Awards, Ms Clementson received 2014 Overseas Foundation Scholarship, which took her to Belgium for a three-month tour of European bakeries.
There is a surging demand for skilled workers in Australia and Mr Cam said VET is key to supplying that demand and building a strong future workforce.
Mr Cam is going to be busy this year speaking with kids about to leave school and their parents at events around Australia.
He will be joined by members of the Australian VET Alumni, just like Mary and Morgan, who are keen to share their VET journey with the rest of Australia.
Together, Mr Cam and the Australian VET Alumni will share their success stories to inspire Australians to participate in VET.
