Resources for School Leavers

School Leavers Information Kits and Service with NCI branding

Thinking about life beyond school? Not sure what’s next with work and study? Want to give your school leaver the resources they need?

Look no further.

National Careers Week (17-23 May) provides a timely opportunity for students to consider their future career.

The School Leavers Information Kit (SLIK) from the National Careers Institute, provides downloadable resources and information to explore education, training and work options for young people.

The national and local information in this Kit helps young people make decisions about their post-school education, training and work pathways.

National Careers Institute Executive Director Tiffany Blight said the resources have been popular among school leavers.

“There has been a fantastic uptake with nearly 15,000 downloads of the SLIK, found on the National Careers Institute’s website YourCareer,” Tiffany said.

The Parents and Guardians Guide for School Leavers outlines the resources and information available in the Kit, to help parents support their children in exploring their options beyond school.

“Both the School Leavers Information Kit and School Leavers Information Service continue to receive positive feedback and support from schools and career practitioners,” Tiffany said.

In addition to these two kits, the National Careers Institute also encourages school leavers to call the School Leavers Information Service (SLIS) on 1800 CAREER (1800 227 337) for tailored careers advice and guidance. This information service offers free personalised career guidance session with a qualified career practitioner.

“Recently we have seen an increased uptake of the service, particularly for students to access the free sessions with our qualified Career Practitioners and schools inviting us to their upcoming career information days.” Tiffany said.

“The National Careers Institute will shortly be sending out information products to all secondary schools across Australia for students in Year 10, 11 and 12, pointing them in the direction of the two kits to help them on their career path,” Tiffany said.

So, if you’re a school leaver, National Careers Week discover what opportunities there are out there for you.

To empower school leavers to make informed decisions about their future, the Australian Government announced the Enhanced Support for School Leavers measure in October 2020. Available until mid-2022, this measure is designed to support young people at a pivotal moment in their lives and enable them to navigate their next steps more easily after school.
