National Skills Week, which runs 24–28 August, highlights how skills can help people get the edge when it comes to starting a career or changing jobs — and it is something the National Careers Ambassador, Scott Cam, is passionate about.

Mr Cam said having diverse skills up your sleeve is always an advantage, and that his own experience shows that Vocational Education and Training (VET) can take you just about anywhere you want to go in life.

“Trade life has changed quite dramatically from when I started, but that’s fantastic,” Mr Cam said. “It’s always going to keep on changing and that’s where VET comes in. VET is a great way to start your career, change your career, or boost your career.”

Mr Cam encouraged everyone to check out all the opportunities on offer in VET and where people can find out more about study options, and current and future jobs in demand.

“The National Careers Institute should be your first stop, and then you can click through to websites including MySkills, Job Jumpstart, Job Outlook and Course Seeker .”

“These are all excellent online resources to help you make informed decisions about learning, training and work pathways.”
