Corey and Trysten both landed their dream apprenticeships after successfully completing a Youth Jobs PaTH internship with Frizelle Sunshine Automotive, on the Gold Coast.
Frizelle Automotive uses PaTH internships as part of its workforce strategy, offering work trials to young people to get valuable work experience while the business can make sure they are the right fit, before offering them an apprenticeship.
Corey Sampson has always loved cars but he never thought he could find a job working in the automotive industry. When he started an internship with Frizelle Automotive, he was thrilled he could turn his hobby into a job.
“Through the internship I learnt that’s what I wanted to do, and I really enjoy it. Now I’m a second-year apprentice and I’m loving my job”, said Corey.
Trysten Trojkovic has also been into cars since he was young, and the internship helped him trial being a mechanic to find out if it was right for him.
“Within the first week of the internship, I knew exactly this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. It keeps me on track, it makes me want to set up goals for myself,” Trysten said.
Using the PaTH program is proving a winning strategy, with Frizelle’s receiving the 2021 QLD State Training Awards Winner for Large Employer of the Year.
All 40 young people who have successfully completed a PaTH Internship with Frizelles since 2019 have been placed in permanent roles with the business, including apprenticeships and traineeships.
Frizelle Sunshine Automotive Service Staff Development Manager, Brendan Dennett said PaTH was a great way to find keen young people and the company enjoyed training and offering new opportunities to candidates.
“I believe that the PaTH internship is a great way for young people to become Australian apprentices. We’ve been able to provide them with opportunities, to help them develop personally and get careers that will be everlasting,” Brendan said.
