The Australian Government is continuing to work with states and territories and non-government education authorities to support teachers, school leaders and school communities to continue to provide high quality education during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes supporting teachers and parents to work together to ensure children continue their education throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several resources are available to teachers and school leaders to help at this challenging time:
Student Wellbeing Hub
The Student Wellbeing Hub works with experts, academics, teachers and leaders, professional associations and industry providers to support the education community in Australia. The Hub has a list of resources for educators, parents and students to support learning communities during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. A new, free, principal and teacher wellbeing professional learning module is also available on the Hub. This introductory course aims to help principals and teachers consider their own wellbeing practices in order to be even more effective in supporting the wellbeing and learning of their students.
Be You Staff Wellbeing
The BeYou initiative, delivered by Beyond Blue in partnership with Early Childhood Australia and headspace, has developed a guide for teachers and school leaders to look after students’ and their own mental health during COVID-19.
COVID-19 posters for schools and early child care providers
A range of COVID-19 related posters are available for use in schools and early learning and child care centres. The posters contain information and tips on how to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19. The posters can be downloaded from the Schools and Early Childhood COVID-19 pages.
AITSL Australian Teacher Response Campaign
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) plays an important role in developing expertise and supporting a quality teaching and school leadership profession. AITSL has a range of resources to support teachers and leaders.
In light of COVID-19, AITSL launched an Australian Teacher Response campaign that includes a teacher resource hub, a Facebook group and a best practice evidence guide for teachers on setting up online learning.
Digital Technologies Hub
The Digital Technologies Hub offers great lesson ideas linked to the curriculum, as well as strategies and advice from Australian primary and secondary schools. The Hub includes advice for teachers on setting up learning at home, and a “Learning at Home” section containing resources for families.
Australian Digital Technologies Challenges
The Australian Computing Academy has made their Digital Technologies Challenges freely available to Australian school students in all year levels from Foundation to Year 12 during the Covid-19 pandemic, and introduced new DT@Home Unplugged resources to support students learning at home who don’t have access to the internet.
Science by Doing program
The Science by Doing program for years 7 – 10 has a teacher’s guide for designing online distance learning with ‘Science by Doing’ resources.
Positive Partnerships program
The Positive Partnerships program provides a range of resources, including workshops, webinars and online modules, to assist with remote and online learning for school-age children on the autism spectrum.
The National Copyright Unit and Australian Publishers Association and the Australian Society of Authors have also come to an agreement to overcome copyright issues and allow teachers to provide story time to their students in an online/remote learning setting during this time.
