About the Australian of the Year Awards

The Australian of the Year Awards celebrates the achievements of inspiring Australians who contribute to the community. Their stories remind us that we can all make a difference.

Each year our nation celebrates the achievements and contributions of Australians who inspire us to make our own contribution.

The Young Australian of the Year award is Australia’s peak award recognising the tremendous and important contributions that young people make to Australian society. The Award recognises the inspirational and exceptional efforts of young people.

The Department of Education is a proud sponsor of the Young Australian of the Year award. We’ve committed $1.2 million to be the major sponsor of the award in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The Australian Government will continue to support young Australians in their passions and endeavours, helping to make our nation great.

The awards are just one way we recognise the dedication of young people and the role they are playing in building a brighter Australia.
